The fact that Hello Kitty was named the new Japanese Goodwill Tourism Ambassador, should give some idea to the uninitiated of this brands’ popularity in Japan… You can’t walk 5 minutes down a high-street in Japan (and most of Asia in fact) without seeing Hello Kitty paraphernalia in every shape and form. This site seemingly lists all of them: from Hello Kitty electronic toilet paper dispensers, to Hello Kitty sushi.

Anyone who has been to Japan, or for that matter travelled anywhere around East Asia, will be aware of the interesting and creative usage of English as a stylistic design element on chocolate bars and canned coffee through to t-shirts and signs.
